In 1947, Norwegian adventurer, Thor Heyerdahl, and his crew crossed the Pacific Ocean on a wooden raft. Inspired by an ancient Polynesian legend about early human settlers, Heyerdahl and his men traveled 8,000km from the shores of Peru, to the islands of Polynesia. Their world-famous expedition became known as the Kon-Tiki Voyage. But what was Thor Heyerdahl trying to prove, and why was his mission so controversial? How did he convince five men to join him on what many called a suicide mission? And how did they survive over 100 days at sea on a basic wooden raft?

This is a short history of the Kon-Tiki Voyage.
